The regional town of Benalla in North East Victoria, Australia is fast becoming recognised as one of Australia’s top spots for street art. We can see why! This place is absolutely outstanding with any spare blank canvas turned into an incredible street mural. With artists form Australia and across the globe, the introduction of urban street art into this community has well and truly put Benalla on the map.
Benalla Street Art – How it Begun
The Benalla Street Art group was formed in 2015 with a vision and belief that they could bring street artists to Benalla. The generosity of the community brought this vision to life with Victoria’s first regional urban contemporary street art festival called, The Wall to Wall Festival.
Benalla Wall to Wall Festival
During one weekend in April each year, artists from all around the world come to Benalla to paint their works on any available surface.
One thing we weren’t aware of until after our visit is that from time to time, the murals do get painted over. We were disappointed to hear this as they are simply outstanding, but we understand why and that is to keep it fresh and relevant for years to come. We personally went out on our own mission to see them and tick them off. A highlight was one piece that is by Adnate which has been voted 8th best in the world, which is located 3 stories high overlooking the Main Street of Benalla.
The Collection Worth Visiting
This is a town you will well and truly get a kick out of visiting, painted buildings, alleyways, shops, skate parks, library walls and even the public toilets. We share some of the Benalla street art that we uncovered. We won’t share them all as that will spoil all the fun.

Final Thoughts
It is a 10 out of 10 to the township of Benalla. We enjoyed our time discovering all the incredible artwork across the city. Some of the choices we didn’t love, but others may. The fact is the initiative behind this has well and truly put Benalla on the Map as a tourist destination to visit and has injected tourist dollars to local businesses.
Its a must visit from us.
