9 Essential Attractions to Visit in Kalgoorlie- Western Australia

The beautiful city of Kalgoorlie Boulder nestled in the Goldfields region of Western Australia is the largest Outback City.

If you have just driven or going to be driving the Nullarbor, Kalgoorlie is a great place to stop for a few days and take a break. There is many things to see and do in the city itself and you won’t be disappointed by a trip here.

With our trip to “Kal” we stayed 3 days and found plenty of things to pass our time. As this was our second trip here, we wanted to make sure we crossed everything off the list and knew we had to splurge on a few of the attractions.  However there is still many low cost options available here if your on a budget.

We found 9 attractions that you must visit for when you visit  Kalgoorlie.

Super Pit Lookout – The super pit look out is one not to miss. If you head to the top of Outram Street in Boulder you will find the lookout that is home to the biggest open pit gold mine in the country. Its open 7am to 7pm daily and has some spectacular views of the mining operation in action.

kalgoorlie Super Pit Tour– This was a must do on our trip.  The 2.5 hour tour is a family friendly and takes you to the open pit with close  views of the “Big Rigs’ in action. You are also taken past the milling operations of the working mine. We paid $45 per adult for the tour and you can only book through Kalgoorlie Tours and Charters.

The museum covers the history of the Eastern Goldfields and the City’s mining heritage. The basement known as the vault holds the largest display of the state’s gold bars and nuggets. The permanent exhibits Miners Building, De Barnales Building & British Arms Hotel are amazing. The museum have put a significant amount of time and money into these exhibits and when you see them all you will say is “wow” There is also an outdoor viewing platform that gives you a great view of the city & back alleyways.

Guided tours last approximately an hour and cost $25 for adults. The tour takes you through the historical working areas of the house and through the rooms that are used each night. I must say it’s very interesting and some of the questions that are asked on the tour are hilarious!

Our final place we missed visiting but we were told is a must see is Hammond Park. The park is a nature reserve that is home to many native birds, animals and fish. It’s also home to the Bavarian Castle that is said to have 40,000 gemstones decorating the façade. It’s a popular venue for families as there is a BBQs, sheltered seating and a kids playground. The park is open daily.

If you would like to get further information on the above attractions, I have included links direct to their websites. Enjoy Kal!
